How to Frontside Nose Slide on a Skateboard!

Los Angeles skateboarding instructor Coyote Rob teaches us in today's online skate course!

What Is a Noseslide? A noseslide is a skateboarding trick where a skateboarder slides along an edge, curb, or railing while balancing on the front end of their board. Noseslides require proper balance and practice to execute successfully. Before trying to noseslide, you should first learn how to ollie, frontside 180, and kickturn. You can perform a frontside noseslide (FS noseslide) with your body facing the obstacle, or a backside noseslide (BS noseslide) with your back towards the obstacle. Alternatively, you can perform a slappy noseslide, which does not include an ollie.

How to Noseslide If you are ready to attempt a noseslide, check out the following step-by-step guide:

  1. 1. Position your feet. Keep your front foot over the front bolts, and your back foot on the tail of the board (also known as the ollie position).

  2. 2. Gain momentum. Skate at a medium speed towards the obstacle on which you’re performing the noseslide. Maintain a moderate speed to slide through the obstacle.

  3. 3. Lift and shift. Keeping your board parallel to the edge or railing, execute an ollie to lift yourself onto the obstacle, shifting your weight to your front foot at the nose of the board. Once the nose is off the ground, slightly turn your shoulders and swing your board with your feet so that it’s perpendicular to the obstacle.

  4. 4. Slide. Once your board is in a “T” shape with the railing or ledge, keep your weight on your front foot to keep the board sliding along. If you shift your weight to your back foot, you’ll dip the board down and lose your balance.

  5. 5. Dismount. When you’re ready to dismount, carefully shift your weight to your back foot, swinging the skateboard back into the riding position as the wheels hit the ground (this is where knowing how to kickturn comes is beneficial). Ride away smoothly, or implement another trick if you’re feeling bold.
